Building bigger dreams
In life, as in theatre, there are some characters that simply need a bigger stage to really shine. Evandro Groeneveldt is one of those.
Evandro is originally from East London. Joining Kandua meant leaving the small city on the coast and coming to the Johannesburg metropolis. “It was always a long term goal of mine. I’m really career driven and always felt a bit limited in East London. Now that I’m here in Jo’burg I feel like I should have been born here,” he laughs.
The move also meant joining a company where you are free to be your most brilliant self. “This is the kind of place where you can really make your mark and bring your ideas to life. Whatever you come up with, you won’t get shot down, and there is always someone there to help make your vision a reality,” he says.
As a Junior Account Manager for Kandua, Evandro is based out of the Leroy Merlin homeware store in Fourways, Johannesburg. When Leroy Merlin shoppers purchase an installation service together with their homeware goods, “I am the glue that holds the whole project together and I make sure people’s home improvement dreams become a reality,” he explains.
Evandro joined Kandua in 2021. His work ethic did not go unnoticed, and he was promoted just over a year later. “I think it’s because I really put in the extra effort. Not simply for my own benefit, but to make sure the customers are really happy and to improve the relationship between Kandua and Leroy Merlin,” he says.
With a background in fashion retail, Evandro is a stylish fellow. Now, he’s all about stylish homes. “When I worked in fashion, I thought this is it. I have found my one passion. Now, I’m just as passionate about home improvement as fashion! I love helping customers make their dream homes a reality, I love going out to the site with the contractors, to learn about how the different services come together, and I find myself reading home improvement blogs on the weekend!”
In fact, Evandro is even involved in his own home improvement project at the moment: He is constructing a dream home with his partner’s 3-year old daughter, for her dolls. When he takes a break from his home improvement passions, you’ll find him on the tennis court or catching one of Jo’burg’s magnificent sunsets.
“I’m excited to go to work in the morning. The work you do here affects people’s lives and their livelihoods. In a corporate setting, you are a drop in the ocean. At Kandua, your work really makes a difference,” Evandro concludes.
